My Favorite Candles – My Cup of Tea

My Favorite Candles

Candles are my cup of tea. There are candles all over my house and it has become a ritual for me to light up candles for different moments of my day. Before I sit down and write, when I start cooking, at dinner, when I take baths.

For some reason, lighting candles is part of my self-care regime. I actually told my husband that if I were to win a lifetime supply of anything, I’d chose candles. Then I got greedy and thought maybe shoes, or skincare, or stationary… What would you choose if you were to win a lifetime supply of something? Please let me know!

Candles are also my go-to gift for birthdays or hostess gifts. I think you can never go wrong it.

In this post, I will share with you my favorite candles. I included splurges but also, great deals. If you click on the pictures it will take you to where you can buy them. Enjoy!

Dyptique candles are the epitome of indulgence. Worth every penny. My favorite scent is Baies, but also love Feu de Bois, Figuier, and Santal. Containers make great storage for makeup brushes or cotton balls.

Portable Fireplace from D.S. & Durga is the perfect name for this candle. I tend to stock up on these during winter (very similar scent as Dyptique’s Feu de Bois). I am dying to try Big Sur After Rain, I’ll keep you posted. Also, I re-use the container as a pencil holder.

This is a great and inexpensive option to have your home smell divinely. While I am writing this blog I am noticing a pattern: I love fig scented candles. It is from Hearth and Hand with Magnolia (Joanna Gaines’ collection at Target).

If you are looking for a scent to set up a sexy tone to an evening, look no more, Le Labo Santal 26 candle is your best bet.

Here’s another inexpensive option. P.F. Candle no. 19 will give your room a sweet and delicate earthy scent. I also like Golden Coast and Sweet Fig (fig, again). I love reusing their containers with tea light candles for a perfect tablescape.

Anthropologie always carries a vast selection of candles and they are fairly priced. These Capri Blue are my favorite!

I’ve purchased this one at the Ranch at the Pier in Malibu. Guess my preferred scent? Yes! Ripe fig, but Campfire smells pretty nice, too. Fun fact: the container is a recycled Leoube rosé wine bottle.

The frankincense candle from Bamford is my cup of tea, too. Frankincense is such a powerful, healing scent. There’s a four wicked one with the words “light, love, laughter” printed all around it that had dwelled on my mental wishlist for so long. The day I finally got it the sales person and I hugged and jumped as if I had won the lottery.

Great candles for a good cause. The Little Market has dozens of fragrances to choose from. I love that you can personalize them, too. My favorites are lavender and peony.

Lastly, my favorite scent for relaxing or meditating is Lavender. Brooklyn Candle Studio makes a really good one. They carry a travel-sized candles, which I find super convenient.

Taking care of your candles

❤︎ Keep the wick trimmed to 1/4 inch at all times.

❤︎ Every time you burn your candle, allow the entire top layer to become a warm pool of liquid wax, that way you’ll prevent it from tunneling.

❤︎ Make sure your candle is on a flat surface while burning it.

❤︎ Keep it away from extreme heat or light.

Some accessories to go with…

Is it easy to clean the container for repurposing after it’s all burned out?

      Mmh.. Define easy.

When my candle is out, I use a knife to remove the remaining wax and throw it out. Then, I pour hot water in the container, and let it sit for a little bit to get all the wax out. After that, I discard the water wash it with dish soap.

Let me know if you try it.
